America Rows Newburgh will row in Baltimore Regatta and Visit our National's Capitol

Newburgh, NY – The Newburgh Rowing Club has announced that America Rows Newburgh, the inclusion rowing program of the Newburgh Rowing Club, will be participating in the America Rows Mid-Atlantic Regional Regatta on May 4th, and that U.S. Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney has arranged for passes for the rowers to visit Capitol Hill the following day, said Coach Ed Kennedy, Programs Director of the Newburgh Rowing Club.

“We are taking down 6 rowers, comprised of 3 Student Ambassadors with substantial rowing experience, one novice Student Ambassador, and my own sons, who will round out the boat as a rower and a coxswain,” said Juliana LoBiondo, Team Mom for the Newburgh Rowing Club and Director of America Rows Newburgh, a scholarship based inclusion rowing program.  “Coaching the team will be  Newburgh Rowing Club’s Head Coach Edwin Cunningham and the America Rows Newburgh coach, Jacqueline Napparano.  The rowers have been working really hard and are looking forward to this wonderful opportunity, to mix and mingle with other rowers from inclusion rowing programs all over the country, to compete, and to see Baltimore and Washington, D.C.”

The regatta is presented by Baltimore Juniors and Reach High Baltimore, celebrates the inclusivity of rowing, said Team Mom LoBiondo.

"The student ambassadors of America Rows Newburgh are among the best and brightest students from the Hudson Valley, and I’m thrilled to help them visit our nation’s capital," said Representative Sean Patrick Maloney.

“It is going to be the experience of a lifetime to have the America Rows Newburgh rowers row their 4+ in Baltimore,” said Coach Kennedy.  “The fact that they get to visit Capitol Hill in a special tour means that it is a trip they will remember forever, no matter what the race results are.  We are very grateful to Congressman Maloney, Richard Butler of America Rows, and the Baltimore Rowing Club.  And of course, none of this would be possible without Mr. and Mrs. LoBiondo, who are driving down the rowers and providing the transportation, lodging, food and supervision for the rowers.”

“I am so excited,” said Anthony Solis, who is in 7th grade at San Miguel Academy in the City of Newburgh and is a novice rower with America Rows Newburgh.  “I have never traveled before and I can’t wait for this trip.”  Going on the trip will be Dajour ("Soup") Fisher, Kelvin Vidals, Jobany ("Chico") Calderon, Anthony Solis, Christian LoBiondo and Michael LoBiondo.
