America Rows Newburgh in Baltimore and D.C.

Washington, D.C. –  The Newburgh Rowing Club’s “America Rows Newburgh,” the scholarship-based inclusion rowing program which is an affiliate of USRowing’s “America Rows” had a very busy weekend on May 4th and 5th.  On Saturday, May 4th, America Rows Newburgh traveled to Baltimore for the America Rows Mid-Atlantic Regional Regatta, where the two Newburgh boats each took Second Place medals home; and on Sunday, May 5th, the group visited Capitol Hill, where Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney arranged for a tour of the Hill and his Office, said Juliana LoBiondo, Director of America Rows Newburgh.

“Congratulations to the Newburgh Rowing Club on their achievements at the America Rows Mid-Atlantic Regional Regatta in Baltimore, and welcome to our nation’s capital,” said Representative Sean Patrick Maloney.  “I join students and families across the Hudson Valley who are proud of the hard work of the students of the Newburgh Rowing Club.”
The trip was made possible by a grant from LoBiondo Law Offices, the support of the coaches of the Newburgh Rowing Club, and the generosity of the Baltimore Rowing Club, which allowed the Newburgh group to borrow boats, said Coach Ed Kennedy, Programs Director of the Newburgh Rowing Club.

The regatta was presented by Baltimore Juniors and Reach High Baltimore, which celebrates the inclusivity of rowing, said Team Mom LoBiondo.  “We are very proud of the Men’s JV 4+, which took Silver in a very exciting race, as well as our Men’s 2x which also took Second place in their event,” said Team Mom LoBiondo.  “But more importantly, it was an amazing experience.  Some of the rowers had never left Newburgh before.  We met some great people at Baltimore and made some lifelong connections.  We then got to experience the majesty of our Nation’s capital in an intimate way that most people do not, thanks to Congressman Maloney.  The Newburgh Rowing Club is no longer just about winning races.  We are here to broaden horizons of our youth and be great Ambassadors for Newburgh.  We met people all over who said that Newburgh must be a great place, because our rowers were such polite and intelligent young men.”
